Frequently Asked Questions

What is the X engagement rate formula?
This Twitter engagement rate calculator uses (likes + reposts + replies + bookmarks + clicks) divided by impressions, times 100. Example: (200 likes + 50 reposts + 30 replies) / 10,000 impressions x 100 = 2.8%, with bookmarks and clicks at zero. It is the formula this page uses. X's own analytics definition has changed before, so do not treat it as a permanent official standard.
What is a good engagement rate on X?
There is no official good engagement rate on X. The labels in this calculator are rules of thumb, not a study and not X's targets. For a single post, under 0.8% is a prompt to check the hook, 0.8% to 1.8% is a working baseline, above 1.8% up to 3.5% is stronger than that baseline, and above 3.5% is unusual relative to these labels. Check the impression count before treating a high rate as a win. The longer notes are in X Engagement Rate: Formula and Benchmarks.
Do bookmarks count as engagement on X?
Yes, bookmarks count in this calculator. A bookmark means someone saved the post, so it belongs in an engagement rate. X's published For You ranking code does not list a bookmark weight. Replies are weighted far more heavily than likes: reply 5.0 versus like 0.5, on the predicted probability of each action, not on raw counts. Source: github.com/xai-org/x-algorithm, home-mixer/params/param.rs, checked 26 Sep 2026.
Why are replies weighted more heavily in the X algorithm?
Replies are weighted far more heavily than likes. In X's published For You weights, a reply is 5.0 and a like is 0.5. Those weights multiply the predicted probability of the action, not the raw reply or like count, so they are not a count of how many replies equal one like. Quotes are also 5.0, and a copy-link share is 20.0. Source: github.com/xai-org/x-algorithm, home-mixer/params/param.rs, checked 26 Sep 2026.
